A house is just a house…until its a home

If you’ve been following me for a while, you might remember that we moved a few years ago. Our old home was a lovely, lived-in farmhouse that I poured my heart into. It wasn’t perfect—neither was life within its walls—but it was full of love, and it was home.

If you’re curious, our old farmhouse was featured on Houzz a few years back. It was far from perfect, but it was full of love and lived-in beauty. You can peek inside here: Our Farmhouse on Houzz. But behind the photos, it was always more about creating a warm, welcoming space where everyone felt comfortable than trying to chase perfection. (I’ve never been a fan of perfect anyway—it’s unrealistic and honestly, exhausting.)

When we first moved, I felt completely lost—homesick in the truest sense. I missed everything: the space, the memories, the familiarity. But over time, our new house—a sweet little place on a great street—started to feel like home, too. We found kind neighbors, made new friends, and slowly started over.

The process of packing up and letting go taught me so much—about resilience, simplicity, generosity, and what really matters. Our new home is about a quarter of the size of the one we left, and let me tell you, downsizing was no joke! But it was also incredibly freeing. We had to get honest about what we really needed—and what we didn’t.

Now, we live with less—but it feels like more. More peace. More intention. More of what actually matters.

A friend came by not long after we settled in and said, “This house feels like you.” That was the best compliment I could have received.

Maybe you're not going through a big life change, or maybe you are. Or maybe you're just craving a little more simplicity and breathing room. If so, start small—one drawer, one corner. It’s enough. And it feels so good. I promise.

Much love,
Susan
